SOLOS/DUOS

It was a challenge for me to compose a piece for such a combination of instruments, so different from the usual chamber music groups. The natural diapason of these instruments is in the range of medium and low pitches and a special care is needed to balance between them.
The cello starts with introducing a chord and the viola responds with another chord, much more quietly. The two instruments converse with each other, sometimes seem completely independent, with no apparent relation to each other, sometimes unite to play in the same rhythm or complement each other.
Towards the end the viola disappears and the cello is left alone to end the piece with the same chord from the beginning.

The piece is dedicated to Irit and Richard Assayas.
