SOLOS/DUOS

The clarinet tells us an imaginary narrative in an associative sequence. One of the associations is that of an old video game, in which characters appearing on the screen are shot. Here, too, the clarinet “shoots down” the melodies played.
The first part of the work features a violin solo that is “captured and destroyed” by the clarinet.
In the latter part, something similar happens, when the solo of the flute and violin is “eliminated” by the solo of the clarinet. Of course, these images have to correspond formally and textually to the overall structure of the work, and this poses a challenge to the composer.
There is a sense of drama in the work, of events whose nature we do not know; Moods change and change, creating a kind of mosaic of emotions. In part of the piece, the clarinet “speaks” and does not “sing”, which is expressed in melodic lines that simulate speech rather than an evolving melody.
These motifs appear throughout the entire piece. Drama and humor – a bit grotesque at times – mix with each other. This is also reflected at the end of the work.
